One expensive A/C capacitor

We had our A/C serviced back in June. Based on our experience, we feel that the company charges wayyyyy too much for replacement part. A US-made dual-run A/C capacitor usually can cost up to $40 bucks but yet they had charged us 10X more. We will definitely consider other HVAC shops for future A/C service.

the service was great, clean and efficient. parts where charged at a very very very inflated price and I'm hoping they will correct that pricing. but in fairness to them I did agree to the price for a total before I began checking parts pricing
Trance furnace inspection
working on a carrier furnace founded headache code 31 which was an open limit switch traced the problem to a field control board that was not turning on the blower I replaced the control board with a new OEM carrier part after getting approval from homeowner I then started and tested the Heat through 3 cycle no other issues to note at this time on the furnace
Working on a York furnace that had a bad pressure switch
Rewired Zone control board and tested operation of heat on a carrier furnace also found the bypass damper was installed incorrectly and is continually open
Looking at a site 2install one of our Daikin ductless mini splits
Installed new Emerson easy reader thermostat for a customer here in Somerset
Working on a carrier furnace that was not heating found that it had a bad control board I replaced it with a new carrier control board started and tested
returned and installed new Carrier blower wheel and American-made General Electric blower motor an American made run capacitor started and tested in heat mode and fan mode from both thermostats heater is working correctly now with no other issues noted

Replacing the inducer assembly on a York high-efficiency furnace
performed seasonal maintenance and safety check on a Rheem furnace washed the air filter ohmed out the hot surface ignitor checked the capacitor for the blower motor checked the flame sensor started and tested heat light off is good along with the amp draws of the inducer and blower motor temperature rise is within factory specs furnace is running correctly at this time
working on a Rheem air conditioner found dual capacitor with reading below the 6% allowed I replaced it with a new American-made part after getting approval from home owner the new part has a five-year warranty on it also rinsed off the condenser coil started and tested A/C no other issues noted at this time
performed seasonal maintenance on a Trane heater washed the air filters cleaned the flame sensor replaced the batteries in the thermostat wiped burner compartment down started and tested amp draws of blower motor and inducer motor are OK even though inducer is a little high heat rise is within factory specs no other issues noted and furnace is running correctly at this time

found condensate drain was plugged up, I cut the pipe and cleared with nitrogen, and then installed new fittings between coil and pipe
working on an older Rheem air conditioner that had a failed fan motor I replaced it with a new American made motor and new American-made capacitor for the motor after getting approval from home owner started and tested AC unit no other issues to note at this time
found Mitsubishi mini split unit was low on refrigerant traced leak to one of the flare nuts on the indoor unit tightened flare nut recovered refrigerant and weigh back in a full charge again started and tested no other issues noted at this time
complaint on a Carrier Air Conditioner was it was icing up I started and tested the unit found a refrigerant charge was great the air filter was brand new so I went into the attic to check the air handler when I opened up the panels on it I could see where the blower motor capacitor was leaking the oil out of it I tested it and it was reading 3.8 microfarads when it should be 5 this will cause the motor to run slow overheat and stall out
Found York air conditioner was not running and the panel On it was laying on top and controls were open also there were no caps on both refrigerant ports refrigerant can leak out from these so caps need to be installed at all times I did a diagnostic of the AC and found the dual capacitor has failed I replaced it with a new American made part that has a 5 year Parts warranty on it I started and tested the unit found no other issues with it I then installed the tamper-proof Cap's
tested York air conditioner found the start wire for the compressor is shorted to ground unit will need to have the compressor replaced at a minimum but that is not recommended do as it is a 2003 model that uses R22 freon
working on a York air conditioner here in Somerset that was not cooling found the made-in-china capacitor has failed I replaced it with a new capacitor and then found the motor and compressor were overheated I had to cool them off with the water hose in order to get it to start after starting everything on the unit is running fine with no other issues to note I also washed and reinstalled the air filter for the homeowner
